Living on my Knees

It happens on the floorspace in front of the dollhouse.

It happens beside the bookshelf.

It happens on the living room floor with a little girl “in saddle”.

It happens beside the cloth diaper binds.

It happens after lunch when the vacuum missed a crumb.

It happens every evening beside their beds.

It happens every morning before they wake up.

Playing.

Sharing.

Cleaning.

Caring.

Praying.

That’s what happens.

it’s living on my knees.

Home

It’s more than a location. It’s more than a storage unit.

I want this to be the place that he longs to return to.

The place where he can enjoy the delights of fairy tales with his little girls, dress-up play and wild hair after wrestling tickle-fights.

The place that he thinks about when he’s gone to work.

The place he desires to be the spiritual leader and can’t wait for the next mid-van ride theology lesson or late-night conversation.

I want this to be the place they long to return to.

The place where giggling, squealing and frolicking live.

The place they think about when they’re cleaning up at a friend’s house.

The place they find that “one spot” on the couch to curl up for adventure readings, and that “special place” where the nursing ticks are acceptable while they fall asleep.

The place where they desire to be the ballet dancers, concert soloists and award-winning princesses.

I want that for them.

And even more I want this to be a place of growing and walking together in the Lord, feeling out the hard trials and facing the struggles of being Light in darkness together. The place where humility finds us on our knees at the altar and passion pushes us out in boldness to the lost and dying world. The place, the hub where compassion is flooding through our missions readings, world vision sponsorship letters and prayer board. The very place where Kingdom work take higher presidency than self-fulfillment.

I want this space to be home.

Not just any home, but God’s home.

So you’ll find me here on my knees, begging the Lord of Life to be more and help me be less.

please come join me…

– love them so.

Oh My Word, Someone’s Four

Rachael,

It’s hard to believe you have gotten so big right before my very eyes. By this time today we will have celebrated you with our little family last night at Chuck-E-Cheese. Yes, we’re that kind of crazy this year, but we know how much you have talked about it in the past and wanted to go spoil you with sensory overload for a while. hehe. And you will have opened your present from us. [Thank you for that tackle-hug with your thank you… I could feel God’s hug in your warm arms of true gratitude.) You will also have slept your first nap and night-time in your “new” bunked bed.

Congratulations on being SO BIG to get to sleep way up on top in your “tree fort”. Tonight we’ll add your princess poster from your birthday party up there to make the little space more of yours. And may I never forget your heartfelt “… thank you,” that poured from your lips as you stood back and admired your new space of independence. It caught me unexpected and melted my heart, little girl.

Maybe it’s in bunking the beds and you getting to pick out your large-family birthday party theme this year, or maybe it’s in your having your first (surprise) slumber party with your sweet little friend, Josie, tonight, but baby girl… you are getting SO BIG!

I love that little wild smile that takes over your eyes,

your uncoordinated dance moves to every movie’s ending credits, your “watch me” glance when you want to be caught being amazing, your “just like us” moments you share with me when pointing out others’ brown eyes, how you get lost in trying to make our little Hannah smile and making those “just you two moments”, Image

how you sing at the top of your lungs in the backseat of the van – oblivious to the key and our ability to hear you, how you get lost in bookworm bliss – begging for one more story of snuggling and imagination, how you have a certain little out of control laugh that only you and Abi share together.

Rachael, you make my heart so full. I couldn’t delight in you more.

It has been such an indescribable blessing getting to be your mommy – soaking in your world right beside you.

I am so grateful to God for giving me you, my Rachael.

So as we go about our day today, celebrating you, I just want to say for today and for always…

Rachael, my dearest, I love you so. You are my delight, indeed.

Happy Fourth Birthday, precious girl.

And yes… we will still grow our hair out like Rapunzel together. 😉

– love you, my Rachael.

A Catch-Up

Just wanted to put in here a catch-up post from homeschooling. We’ve been taking a break due to Christmas for nearly a month now –That’s a nice advantage of homeschooling. But I wanted to share a little discovery fun that Rachael, Abi and I had on one of our homeschooling nature walks.

We had been discussing light and the affects of light on items. We discussed shadows and took the opportunity to check out some shadows at various times in the day. Along with our shadow viewing, we decided to take our magnifying glasses and observe plants up close. We also collects items that would fit in a sandwich bag in which to make nature pictures.
