So in honor of my rommate, here is my &#8220;4 a.m. Monologue&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-style:italic;color:rgb(153,102,51);\"><p>G&#8217;morning God.<br \/>It&#8217;s a little early, being 4 o&#8217;clock and all, but I trust that your timing is perfect.<br \/>I sit here on the couch listening to two purrers in the darkness.<br \/>No Franklin activity.<br \/>The heater blowing.<br \/>The refrigerator humming.<br \/>The couch cover&#8217;s much colder at 4 a.m.<br \/>Maybe I&#8217;m just more sensitive.<br \/>The rustling of the goldfish cracker box stirrs the wild out of once-peaceful kittens.<br \/>&#8220;Basic, not acidic.&#8221; Kelly&#8217;s advice echoes in my mind as I attempt to neutralize stomach acid.<br \/>The reflection of my bedroom light reveals activity in Franklin&#8217;s water.<br \/>Guess the headcount of those awake is now four.<br \/>Two cats, one turtle, one Monica. No Robin.<br \/>The orchestra of coughing, plastic bag crinkling and cat collar bells plagues the silence of a once-quiet apartment.<br \/>Personal space violations and finger bites from the vampire cat spur the completion of goldfish cracker snacking.<br \/> Now what?<br \/>         Silence surrounds me.<br \/>I wish Robin were up. And yet I don&#8217;t.<br \/>She looks peaceful.<br \/>Overhead footsteps reveal that there are now five awake.<br \/>Two cats, one turtle, one Monica and one neighbor.<br \/>The footsteps stop.<br \/>Now back to four; two cats, one turtle and one Monica.<br \/>The cats settle back into the couch beside me.<br \/>My eyelids heavy. Alas&#8230; sleep becomes me.<br \/>Whiskers tickle my nose, reminding me that sleep does not belong here.<br \/>Cold toes find warmth beneath bedcovers. No Robin disturbed.<br \/>The 4 a.m. Monologue now the 5.<br \/>Sleap&#8230; please become me again.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color:rgb(255,102,0);\">It didn&#8217;t until nearly an hour later. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I couldn&#8217;t sleep.
